Commissioning is the systematic process of ensuring—through documented verification—that all building systems are installed and perform according to design intent. Commissioned buildings experience fewer problems during start-up, are easier to maintain, more comfortable and cost less to operate than buildings that are not commissioned.
The commissioning process begins early in the design phase and continues through post occupancy of a new building. Retro-commissioning can also be implemented in existing facilities to improve the performance and efficiency of building systems.
In general, the goals of commissioning include:
- Quality
- Design Intent Verification
- Value Engineering
- Comfort
- Energy Efficiency
- Sustainable Performance
