Osborn is Ohio’s oldest engineering firm. In 1892, Frank Osborn founded the company that still bears his name. Over a century has passed since Osborn first began contributing to the growth and development of Cleveland and the nation through outstanding engineering and architecture. Osborn took a leadership role developing new, innovative methods for concrete testing and design standards. In 1902 Mr. Osborn authored the forerunner of today’s American Institute of Steel Construction’s Design Manual, The Osborn Tables. These and other innovations dramatically increased the efficiency of structural and civil engineering design and consequently made the landmark projects of the twentieth century possible.
As assembly lines and the mechanization of industry afforded the "working man" more leisure time, Osborn Engineering began designing sports facilities. One of our first stadia, the original Fenway Park in Boston, was the beginning of a long line of sports facilities. More followed, including the Polo Grounds and Yankee Stadium in New York, Robert F. Kennedy Stadium in Washington D.C. (co-venture), Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh (co-venture), Cleveland Municipal Stadium, Cleveland League Park, and the structural engineering for the Cleveland Indians Baseball Park (Jacobs Field) and the new Cleveland Browns Football Stadium. Osborn designed many sports facilities for colleges and universities, including Wisconsin, Purdue, West Point, Notre Dame, Michigan, and our more recent success, the Ohio State Stadium expansion and renovation
