City of Akron
West Market Street

(Before Construction)
The widening of West Market Street (S.R. 18) from Hawkins Avenue to Twin Oaks Road in the City of Akron is a remarkable expansion project. This LPA project for the City covers a total distance of just under a mile in a highly congested area. The project includes the widening of substandard lanes and the addition of strategically located turning lanes to ease traffic congestion.

The intersections of Elmdale and Castle intersections are being realigned to allow improved traffic flow and sight lines. Streetscape Enhancements which will improve the overall appearance of this historically significant area include the use of paving bricks, trees, tree grates and decorative street and sidewalk lighting. All of the electrical and other overhead utilities are being taken underground to further enhance the area's look.
