Cedar Point Sports Center

Cedar Fair Entertainment Company | Sandusky , Ohio
OSPORTS provided sports architecture and full engineering design services for a new 260,000 SF athletic complex in Sandusky, Ohio. The complex includes nine basketball courts (convertible to 20 volleyball courts), a championship court arena with retractable seating, a 30,000 SF sports medicine facility, and a community fitness center.

At its core, the goal of the sports center project was to create world class facility for tournament play that has the visitor and player experience of a professional arena. This experience was designed to begin upon arrival with the massing of a dynamic glass façade and canopy that stretches along the main entry. It is carried into the interior with a voluminous lobby, adorned with a center hung scoreboard and continues to the mezzanine level overlooking the main and championship courts for optimal spectator viewing and to maximize the sights, sounds, energy and excitement of the event.

The complex also includes a children's area that consists of a ballocity and soft play area, play climb, party area, and offices. The flex space includes a control room, ticket office, manager's office, kitchen, cafe and seating area, team rooms, training and physical therapy rooms and a mezzanine.

The complex contains the Lee Jewett Sport Medicine Center, a Firelands Regional Medical Center facility. The 45,000 SF facility will house Sports Medicine, Orthopedic, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Pain Management, Athletic Training and Sports Performance programs. The facility is enhanced by a physical therapy gym that has a dedicated sports performance area complete with a completion-level track and turf area. Imaging is also on-site to support scheduled patient and real-time evaluation of injuries during tournament play at the adjacent sports center. Serving all of these programs is the Aquatic Therapy Center, collocated with the Physical Therapy Department. The space utilizes two plunge pools and a large hydrotherapy pool to provide various treatment types and performance training regiments. The center is visually connected with the rehab and training gym with a glass wall, but utilizes custom transparent graphics to allow daylight and views while maintaining patient privacy. The Hydrotherapy Center has three dedicated private locker rooms with toilets and showers located off a separate ante space for scheduled patients.
