Heinen's Grocery Stores
Osborn Engineering worked closely with the architect, Process Creative Studios (PCS), providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing and technology engineering services to Heinen’s Fine Foods for the development of new stores as well as their renovation and re-imaging program.
The Glenview, IL market is 43,000 SF new facility located in the upscale Chicago suburb. Osborn worked closely with PCS and Professional Foodservice Design, Inc (PFDI) to coordinate and design all temperature and humidity control systems for the facility. Osborn was responsible for all MEPT design services including lighting, power, HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and interdisciplinary coordination. The new market includes a variety of departments including frozen foods, a café, produce and meat coolers, hot and cold kitchens, dairy, wellness, grocery, checkout areas and supporting spaces.
As part of Heinen’s comprehensive re-imaging program, Osborn assisted PCS in the renovations for the 56,000 SF market. Osborn provided all the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and technology engineering services that included modifications to existing HVAC and fire protection systems, demolition and relocation of plumbing systems, lighting and relocation of power. The areas of the store being renovated include the bakery, floral and fruit department, check out, wellness, frozen foods, meats, cheese, food service, and an employee seating area.
Downtown Cleveland (Historic Ameritrust Rotunda)
In striving to serve the increasing residential population in downtown Cleveland, Heinen’s opened a new market in the historic Ameritrust Rotunda as part of the Geis Companies’ downtown apartment / hotel redevelopment project called the “The 9.” Osborn provided MEPT engineering services in supporting PCS on this project. The 33,000 SF store encompasses the first two floors of the Rotunda as well as the first floor of the adjacent 1010 Euclid Avenue building. The project provided many engineering design challenges as would be expected when incorporating a grocery/market into an historic bank building. Catering to downtown residential living, the market includes a mixture of fresh and packaged foods as well as pre-prepared meals and a fine wine department.
Village of Bannockburn, Illinois
As part of Heinen’s comprehensive growth program for the Greater Chicago area, Osborn assisted PCS in the 62,000 square foot renovations of a former Dominick's Finer Foods store, transitioning it into a Heinen’s of Bannockburn market. This store is the largest Heinen’s in the greater Chicago area. Osborn worked closely with PCS, Professional Foodservice Design, Inc (PFDI) and Hattenbach to coordinate and design all control systems for the facility, including temperature and humidity. Osborn provided all the HVAC, electrical, plumbing and technology engineering services that included complete reengineering and replacement of the existing HVAC systems, extension of the fire protection system, demolition and relocation of plumbing systems, demolition and redesign of the fire alarm system, demolition and redesign of the lighting including new controls, and demolition and redesign of the power systems. The entire store was renovated including a new kitchen, bakery, floral and fruit department, check out, wellness, frozen foods, meats, cheese, foodservice, cafe, and the front office areas.
