East Market Street Redevelopment

City of Akron | Akron , Ohio
Osborn provided engineering services for the rehabilitation of approximately 2,700’ of pavement, curb and sidewalk on East Market Street from the Kelly Avenue Bridge to 124’ past Fulton Street in Akron.

The project was a design build streetscape project for the City of Akron along with IRG the private developer of the Goodyear HQ. The project took concept plans developed by another engineering firm, corrected and further developed the plans to be consistent with the vision of the Architect. The project consisted of adjusting the profiles to match the building thresholds to make the adjacent building ADA compliant, new curbs, waterline replacement, drainage, pavement, added a dedicated bike lane, LED lighting and signals. Decorative concrete was utilized to enhance the sidewalk in areas and to highlight road-way intersections and crosswalks.

The project had a fast track design and review process in order to complete the first phase in a timely manner. Much coordination was needed to be performed between the CM, developer, several city departments, utility companies and the transits agency.
