Warm, Safe & Dry Program

Cleveland Public Library | Cleveland , Ohio
Awarded a contract by the Trustees of the Cleveland Public Library system, Osborn Engineering was hired to rehabilitate the following ten Cleveland Public Library branches: Addison, Collinwood, Glenville, Harvard-Lee, Langston Hughes, Carnegie West, Fulton, Jefferson, Lorain, and Rockport. The project consisted of improvements, renovations, and construction for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems; renovations to provide handicap accessibility; exterior wall remediation; roofing; exterior site work; and interior renovation and improvements. The desired outcome for this project was providing fully functional buildings that will support the Library’s mission for years to come.

Many of the branches’ buildings were approaching a century of use, so preserving the architectural integrity of these buildings was another vital aspect of the design process. In providing AE services, Osborn needed to be conscious of schedule so that no more than one branch on each side of Cleveland (east and west) would be closed at any given time. The primary scope of the project included mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, handicap accessibility, building envelope, roofing, interior renovation and improvements, exterior site work, and other items as needed. Osborn scheduled the project according to this requirement and completed the projects according to schedule.
